dc.description.abstractVascular Doppler ultrasonography reports of patients in a private medical diagnostic centre over a 62-month period (Feb 1999 – April 2004) were traced and analysed. There were a total of 203 reports, which consisted of 98 males and 105 females. Patients were aged between 6–91 years. Mean age of the patients was 52 years. One hundred and eight (53.2%) of the patients were referred with a diagnosis of suspected deep vein thrombosis (DVT), 25 others had clinical diagnosis of peripheral artery disease with or without leg ulcers/gangrene. Of the 108 (48 males and 60 females) suspected to have DVT only 45 (41.6%) had ultrasonographic evidence of DVT. These consisted of 23 males and 22 females. Twenty-four (12.3%) had valvular insufficiency, comprising 18 females and 6 males.en_US
