Abstract
This study explored the role social media in enhancing technopreneurship among youths in Nigeria. Objey' s of the study are: to identify some of the social media handles that are beingaeployed by technoprene'urs to reach their consumers; assess the impact of these social media handles on :their business competitiveness and operational efficiency; determine the effect of technopreneurship on youth employment; evaluate the influence oftechnopreneurship on Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product; and assess how social media had motivated them as stakeholders in technopreneurship. The study is a survey with 337 participants randomly selected among youth technopreneurs in Nigeria. Instrument of data gathering and analysis was Google forms. Results of the analysis were presented descriptively using frequencies, percentages, figures and tables. Findings showed that generally, social media had been found to be key players in technopreneurship. Out of the 5 social media handles (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and Tiktok) considered in the study, WhatsApp was mostly used. Also, Social media had positive impact on the operational efficiency and business competitiveness of technopreneurs. The study concluded that technopreneurship has led to job creation, empowerment and self- reliance in Nigeria thereby reducing unemployment among Nigerian youths. It has also helped in boosting Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product. The study recommended that to further reduce unemployment, Nigerian youths need to embrace technopreneurship in earnest instead of relying totally on government employment that may not be forthcoming. Policy makers (ministry of education and higher institutions) should introduce technopreneurship as part of school curriculum and make it a prerequisite for all regardless of their course of study. This will not only help to prepare youths for life after schooling but also assist them to diversify in the world of employment and boost Niaeria's Gross Domestic Products.
