dc.description.abstractThis article described the performance of the Early Years Exposure to Science (EYES), a co-curricular science education programme in popularizing scientific literacy in Nigerian primary schools. It highlighted goal of scientific literacy that are likely to steer the boat of development in Nigeria. Goals and objectives of teaching primary science are outlined. It has also identified some problems of primary science education and scientific literacy in Nigeria. The contributions of Early Years Exposure to Science (EYES) in popularizing, promoting, stimulating and sustaining primary school pupils interest in science are delineated. The article has further given a stoic curd of an objective assessment of EYES in popularizing scientific literacy in Nigeria. It has given a summary information on EYES innovative practices in popularizing scientific literacy in Nigerian schools and Education Distracts in particular such as: EYES in-Service-workshop (ESW); Science and Creativity Television (SCcT) Programme and Adopt-a-School- Approach (ASA). Details on how EYES in-Service Workshop (ESW) would be operated and replicated in all Education Districts for cost-effectiveness in the re-training of primary science teachers arc- equally highlighted. Some challenges of EYES programme in popularizing scientific literacy are stated. The paper suggests that recreating the image of science and scientists through advocacy and adopting the public schools would assist in popularizing and promoting scientific literacy in Nigerian primary schools and concludes that the stake holders of primary education should cast their gaze beyond how scientific literacy could be popularized vis a- vis, Adopt a- School Approach (ASA).en_US
