Electroplating effluents from some factories in Nigeria were treated using several precipitants. The precipitants used include lime and alum singly and as a mixture. The effect of using ferrous sulphate and ferric chloride with lime was studied. The effect of varying the pH of the solution on the percentage removal of the metals was also studied. The results showed that treatment using ferric chloride with lime gave the best result. This particular treatment completely removed the heavy metals in all three effluents. This is shown by a post treatment value of 0.0mg/L for all the metals in the different effluents even at pH of 7.0. The treatment using lime alone was effective (complete removal with obtained) but only 5% Chromium was removed. Treatment using alum alone was able to remove some of the metals to significant levels. pH had a significant effect on the removal of heavy metals. increase in the pH showed enhanced removal for all the treatment methods.en_US
