dc.description.abstractThe study is on the assessment of the effectiveness of on-the-job training (OJT) for acquisition of relevant skills among students of electrical/electronic technology education for employment and technological development in era of economic recession. The population of the study included all the 300 level students of Technology Education, University of Lagos (19 students); Vocational and Technical Education, Yaba College of Technology (29 students) and Technical and Vocational Education, Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka (59 students). This gave a total of 106 students. There was no sampling therefore; the entire population was used for the study. Four research questions and two hypotheses were raised for the study. A total of 32 items under 4 point rating scale were generated to elicit information from the respondents. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the research questions while the hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using t-test. The study revealed that: student attitudes affect on-the-job training, on-the-job training helps the students on procedural method of carrying out workshop laboratory work, creative and manipulative skills, makes the students confident on themselves. It was concluded that a successful on-the-job training process makes the students confident in themselves, improves creativity and manipulative skills. The students carry out jobs with little or no supervision. On-the-job training with academic study to gives students the hands-on experience and the theoretical knowledge they need to get a job in their chosen field.
