- ItemOpen AccessICT competence and use of electronic information resources among distance learning students in South-West Nigeria(International Journal of Information Processing and Communication, 2018-06) Adedokun, T.O; Babalola, Y.TThe paper reports on part of the finding of a doctoral study that was completed in Babcock University in 2017. The study was carried out among 8,812 undergraduates of the National Open University in South-West, Nigeria to ascertain the influence of ICT competence on use of electronic information resources (EIRs). The survey research design was adopted for the study. Stratified sampling technique was used to select 802 participants. Data was collected with a self-structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation and simple regression analysis. Findings showed that majority of the students had the requisite ICT competence to effectively use electronic information resources. There was a significant relationship between the use of EIRs and ICT competence (r=0.389; p<.05) and ICT competence had a significant influence on the use of EIRs (Adj. R2= .150, F(1,569)=101.40, p<.05). The study recommended that the management of NOUN should make efforts to remove the impediments to optimum use of EIRs by NOUN students such as erratic power supply, and poor Internet access. Also, the library should provide periodic training to sharpen the ICT competence of students.
- ItemOpen AccessInformation literacy for sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria: a case of farmers in Lagos-State(Nigerian Library Association, 2020) Ojo, J.O.; Odunlade, R.O; Adedokun, T.OThe study examined the informatkn literacy for sustainubl agricultural development in Nigeria: a case offarmers in Lagos-State. Demographi characteristics explored revealed farmers' various sources of agriculturalinformation based on their level of information literacy in accessing agricultural ir(ormation coupled 1-ith the level offarmers' need for capacity building towards sustainobilityof nation I development. A sample of J 50 vegetablefarmers engaged in agriciltural activities was selected jar the study using disproportional stratifiedand purposive . ampling techniques. Some local government areas were selected purposivelyfrom the Three senatorial districts in Lagos state namely Lagos West (Iyana -Gba), Lagos East (Ikorodu) and Lagos Central (Ogudu). Descriptive statistical tools offreqvency, percentage. rank. mean. standard deviations were used to analyze the data. Pearson product moment correlation was used to explore the relationships existing among the dependent and independent variables and Generalized Linear Models (GLM) was used to determine the significance and contributions of demographic factors to information literacy of farmers and farmers' need for capacity building towards sustainability of national development. Findings revealed that agricultural development for national sustainability will depend 011 manners' ability TO make use of information communication technology through the use of internet as yardstick and tool for information agricultural sourcing. improving on their information literacy to an appreciable level. Recommendations lrere based on the need for farmers to develop (heir capacity building in management for effective marketing. technology know how that will enhance their jobs beyond The present scope.
- ItemOpen Accessuse of electronic information resources for sustainable development of open & distance learning programmes in Nigerian Universities(Global Review of Library and Information Science (GRELIS), 2023) Adedokun, T.O; Ojo, J.O.; Odunlade, R.OThe study investigated the availability of electronic information resources for sustainable development of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) in Nigeria universities. The nature of learning has changed due to the advent of K'Ts and the emergence of new technologies. The need to sustain the development of ODL calls for adequate provision of electronic resources to match the growing information needs of students. The study used a survey research design. A sample of 400 students was drawn from twelve conventional universities offering distance learning programmes in Nigeria. Purposive random sampling technique was used to select the participants. Data was collected using a self-structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation. Findings showed that e-books, online databases, e-journals, e-references were available, adequate and accessible in the libraries under study. The e-resources brought about improved learning outcomes and up-to-date information. To sustain the provision of e-resources for Open and Distance Learning, infrastructural development, policy-making and implementation are germane. Financial constraint pose a serious challenge to e-resources provision and utilization. Therefore, recommendations were made for improved library budget and infrastructural development to sustain access to e-resources by the students.
