This has been the case oforchestrated insecurity by Islamic Seth, Boko Haram in the North-East of Nigeria. The incumbent government has evolved different strategies to degrade this group and the result is peace coming back to the areas. The end in view however comes with the challenges ofdisplacedpersons all over the areas that have hitherto been seeking refuge in otherparts ofthe country. This group has avalanche ofcomplain which include neglect and malnutrition among others. Failure to accord the deserved attention to the health and wellbeing ofthe IDPsportends grave implications. Sport is indisputably one ofthephenomenon that plays a major role in communicating positive awareness messages on key issues and assist in driving social change. This paper in turn reviews roles ofsport in combating the challenges ofIDPS in Nigeria.
- ItemOpen AccessHuman Kinetics and Health Education Curriculum: A Tool for Sustainable Development of Nigerian Students in Tertiary Institutions(EKSU Journal of Education, 2018) Esan, J.A.; Adewunmi, C.M.The paper examined the Human Kinetics and Health Education curriculum and identified the objectives of General education, Human kinetics and Health education as recipe for sustainable development of students. It explained the contribution of the objectives of self realization, human relationship, economic efficiency and civic responsibility, development of organic power, neuromuscular skill, desirable personal-social attitude and intellectual awareness towards sustainable development of students. The contributions of the community, international sports, field trips, "pool model" towards the actualization of sustainable development were highlighted. It identified career opportunities apart from teaching available to students. It concludes that Human Kinetics and Health Education curriculum enhances sustainable development of students physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and morally through the impact of the objectives of Human Kinetics and Health Education

- ItemOpen AccessProblems facing effective maintenance of facilities in tertiary institutions and its implications on sports development in Nigeria(Department of Recreation and Excercise Science, Kenyetta University, Nairobi, Kenya, 2017) Awoyinfa, J.O.; Adewunmi, C.M.; Ogunsemoore, M.A.The purpose of this study was to examine the problems facing the effective maintenance culture of sports facilities in tertiary institutions in Nigeria and it implications on sports development. The research method used was a descriptive survey method. The population comprised sports personnel in ten selected Federal Universities in Nigeria which included sports administrators, directors, coaches, students' athletes, and non-academic staff especially the grounds men. The sample comprised 1,200 participants which were selected randomly from each of the six geopolitical zones, both Federal and first generation tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The inferential statistics of Chi- square X2 was also used to test all stated hypotheses at a 0.05 level of significance. Four hypotheses were stated and tested and result indicated that: budgetary allocation, commercialization, over usage and weather significantly affects maintenance of sports facilities" in tertiary institutions in Nigeria
