The Journal of Positive Psychology and Counselling(2024) Adeogun, A.O; Oladipo, A.J; Ebabhi, A.M; Ogunwale, D.This study investigated effect of stress on female student cognitive dissonance among university of Lagos distance learners. Stressors of interest were occupational stress, family stress, academic stress and financial stress. To investigate these variables two hypotheses and two research questions were raised, descriptive research design was employed for the study and 200 undergraduate female distance learning students were selected using simple random sampling techniques. A self-structured questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of .83 was used to collected data and collected data were analysed using Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple regression. Results reveal that stress can lead to high level of cognitive dissonance among working female learners, it further revealed that financial stress is the most potent contributor to cognitive dissonance while family stress is the least. Based on these findings, stress management training was recommended.
