- ItemOpen AccessAccessibility to Health-Information and Family Influence on Reproductive Health Literacy Amongst Adolescent Girls(Journal of Physical Education, Health and Sport (conservation University), 2018-07-31) Fasoranti, A.J; Onwuama, M.A.C; Aladesokun, T.Opportunities for young girls in sexual health education is being discriminated against because there are beliefs that girls that know too much can become wayward. Adolescent girls are faced with so many challenges ranging from cultural and parental pressures. This study sought to evaluate the access to health information and family influence on reproductive health literacy amongst adolescent girls. The sample size comprised two hundred and fifty females (n-250) students selected through purposive sampling method. The research instrument is a self-developed structured and validated questionnaire while descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages was used to analyze the responses. Two hypotheses were postulated. Findings showed that access to health information regarding reproductive health is limited and also family influence reproductive health literacy. The study therefore recommends that parents should educate their young daughters about family planning method and teachers should take out time from their allotted schedule to discuss sexual related issues with the adolescents in the school.
- ItemOpen AccessComparative Effect of Strength Training Programme on Static Balance Ability of Male and Female Adolescents(African Journal of Sports Science, 2014) Esan, J.A.; Olugbodi, S.O.The study investigated the effect of strength training programme on the static balance of male and female adolescents in the experimental and control groups. The participants were sixty nine Junior Secondary School Students of Russell International Group of Schools, Benin City, Nigeria. Age ranged from 11-16 years. Random Sampling technique -was used in selecting the participants. Informed consent forms -were given to the participants. The participants in the experimental group were subjected to strength training exercises lasting thirty minutes, performed three times a 'week, while those in the control group did not undergo any training programme. Data were collected on the static balance test on experimental and control groups with eyes closed and eyes opened. The data collected was analysed with descriptive and inferential Statistics of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). There -was significant difference in the static balance of the male and female adolescents in" the experimental and control groups (F3,65=2.75,P<0.05). To ascertain where the significant differences occur, Scheffe post hoc analysis was used. It was found that significant differences existed between Experimental females and control females, experimental females and control males. Between control females and experimental males. Between experimental males and control males, while insignificant differences existed between experimental females and experimental males, between control females and control males. It is concluded that strength training exercises have effect on the static balance of male and female adolescents. It is recommended that adolescents should take part in strength training programme, two to three times a week to promote their static balance.

- ItemOpen AccessLearner- Teacher Relationships: Implications for Reproductive Health Education for Adolescents in Secondary Schools in Lagos State(Nigerian Journal of Health Education, 2011) Onwuama, M.A.CThe development of appropriate life-long learning skills, literacy level, moral and civic values and positive interpersonal relationships as important factors in a social environment. This study investigated Learner-Teacher relationships as they exist within Secondary schools and its implications on reproductive health education of adolescents in Lagos State. Expost Facto Research design was employed. 150 participants (50 Teachers and 100 students of from JSS 3 to SS 2 for students aged 13- 19years) using the same instrument for multi-stage target selected through a combination of simple random and cluster sampling techniques constituted the study sample. Research instrument was modified structured Life Changes Impact Assessment interview Questionnaire of American Psychological Association (Sarason, etal, 1978) tagged (LCAQ) adopted for multi-stage farget group discussions. The t- Test statistics was applied for data analysis. Results: Identified reproductive health related complications such as: sexual abuse, molestation, assault and corporal punishment for refusal to comply to negative relationships and teenage pregnancy. Also, student-student relationships resulted in teenage pregnancies while cases of post abortion complications occurred. Other resultant issues include: expulsion and discontinuation of education and emotional dejection. There are Teacher-Teacher relationships and domestication of students prior to sexual abuse. Recommendation: Revisit Education curriculum on Sexuality Education to inculcate Refusal Skills for girls. Teachers monitor for disciplinary measures.
