Abstract
This survey seeks to examine the extent to which academic libraries in Nigeria have automated their cataloguing operations. The study further draws a comparison between the conventional cataloguing and automated cataloguing practices. Problems associated with the development of cataloguing standards in Nigerian academic libraries are highlighted. The paper indicates that lack of clear-cut policies regarding both conventional and automated cataloguing has affected standardization. The findings show that uniformity in cataloguing operations is needed in order to achieve arid maintain standards in resource sharing and networking. This could be achieved by the intervention of both the Nigerian Library Association and the Librarian registration Council.
