Abstract
Dealing with occupational, and professional growth demands necessitates an appreciation of lifelong learning as an integral component of technical vocational education and training (TVET). The role of TVET in improving workforce skills by promoting lifelong learning opportunities in the workplace is widely acknowledged. The global economic crisis and high unemployment levels among youth and adults illustrate the need to concentrate more on workplace skill growth. The need to develop vocational skills through lifelong learning has gotten much help from UN organisations like the ILO and UNESCO. For example, the Dakar framework for action on education for all states that “the educational system shall provide lifelong learning opportunities to all, focusing on the learner and the learning process, providing safe and inspiring learning environments that will allow individuals to develop their critical thinking and imagination and realise their full potential, with emphasis on access and e-learning,” and “the educational system shall provide lifelong learning opportunities to all, focusing on the learner and the learning process, provide safe and inspiring learning environments that will enable individuals to develop (UNESCO, 2000).
