Abstract
This study examined the Basic technology student's perception of the influence of social networking on junior secondary school student's achievement in Basic Technology in Educational District IV of Lagos State. A descriptive survey research design was adopted in the study. A sample size for this study comprised of 300 students, made up of 1 percent or 0.01 of the total population of students in the district under study. The sample was made up of male and females students to select from public Junior Secondary Schools (JSII). A multi-stage sampling technique was employed to select the samples. The instrument was validated and found to be reliable with a reliability coefficient of r = 0.81. The demographic data collected were analyzed with the use of descriptive statistics of frequency count and percentage, the Five (5) research questions and five hypotheses were tested in the study using descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation. The results obtained showed that, there is significant influence of social networking usage on junior secondary school students' achievement in Basic Technology. Based on these findings, it was recommended that the Government should train in-service teachers on the use of social media to teach the students through online learning, school administrators and managers should provide a conducive learning environment where different social media app can be used for learning purpose, Students should be conscious of the time they spend on social media sites in order to have more time for their classroom activities and homework. School authorities should encourage the students to judiciously use the available computer laboratory in schools for educational purpose. All Basic Technology students irrespective of their gender should be encouraged creating online community of learners to solve more Basic Technology problems.
