Abstract
The study investigated the level of administrative and parental awareness towards the Child Rights’ Act in Lagos State. Six research questions were postulated and five hypotheses were tested. Research question, four was not subjected to hypothetical test because it was basically for content verification. The Chi-square statistics was used to test the hypotheses because categorical data were collected. For the purpose of the study, 300 primary and 50 junior secondary schools were sampled from 629 and 183 available respectively. Also 40 schools administrators and 3,500 parents and 3,500 learners were sampled. The study concluded that a significant different existed in the level of awareness of parents, school administrators and learners about the Child Right’s Act. Also it can be inferred that parents’ social economic status as well as availability of basic facilities influenced children’s participation in the UBE. In addition parents as well as learners level of awareness of the Child Rights’ Act affected participation in the UBE. The study further highlighted the need for school programes to take into account social, economic and cultural barriers. Also, it emphasized that effective strategies should be adopted to ensure the realization of the objectives of the UBE.
