Abstract
The essential oil of the leaves of Hyptis suaveolens (L.) Poit. from Nigeria was isolated by hydrodistillation. The oil was analyzed by GC and GC/MS. Of the 49 components which were detected, 39 amounting to 89.5% were identified. The dominant components were sabinene (16.5%), trans-a-bergamotene and P-caryophyllene (19.8%), terpinen-4-01 (9.6%) and P-pinene (8.6%).
