Abstract
The study examined the students' perception of possible 'causes of sexual violence against female student in tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria. Research questions, relaied' literature review, and researcher- designed and validated questionnaire were appropriCl'!jlely used. The research design adopted was the survey design. The research oreo was kogi state of Nigeria. The papulatton involved in this study comprised all the students in tertiary educational institutions in Kogi state. The sample size chosen was 600 regular students randomly selected from three educational institutions in the state. The data collected. through the questionnaire were anaiyz8d using frequency and -percentages. Based on this it was found our that provocative, inductive . or indecent dressing pattern by''female -students; desire .for unmerited grades; and undue interaction or relationships with .opposrre sex ranked first, second and third respectively as possible causes of sexual vioisnce against female students. It was. equally shown that the exfent of severity of these three possible . couses on the· campuses of our tertiary' . educational institutions .. was high. Based on this appropriate recommendations were made as a rueosure to ameliorate the social evil.
