Abstract
The acquisition and development of skills and knowledge of employees are concerns of the academics and practitioners following modern technology which tends to improve the employee effectiveness and performance. Based on this, the study examined the relationship among employee training, socio-demographic characteristics and job performance of academic staff in Public Colleges of Education in South West, Nigeria. The descriptive survey research design, of the expo-facto in nature was used. A total of 4080 participants constituted the sample size. Thisfigure was made up of 480 academic staff and 3600 final year students. They were selected through stratified random sampling technique. Three null hypotheses were postulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. A researchers' selfconstructed and validated instrument titled Employee Training and Job Performance Questionnaire (ETJPQ) was usedfor data collection. Chi-Square and Analysis of Variance statistical tools were usedfor data analysis. The results showed that there was a significant influence of staff training on academic staff job performance in Colleges of Education in South West, Nigeria (x 2 (4078, N = 4080) = 14.54, p < .05). There was no significant difference injob performance of academic staffbased on teaching experience. Further there was a significant difference injob performance of academic staff based on the academic qualification. It was therefore recommended among others that institutional manager and principal officer should consciously and regularly provide adequate training so as to improve employee performance leading to organizational development.
