Abstract
Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH)
PIH is the development of hypertension in the second half of pregnancy on two or more occasions, about 4 hours
apart, in a woman who has previously been normotensive, and in whom blood pressure (BP) returns to normal within
6 weeks of delivery. PIH without proteinuria is a relatively benign condition and usually occurs in the third trimester,
during labour or the puerperium. Perinatal mortality is usually not increased in this condition and it is thus important
to distinguish between it and PE.
