Abstract
This study aimed to examine impact of athletes’ image management on sustainable economic development through sports in Southwest, Nigeria. A sample size of two hundred and fifty-seven (257) respondents will be drawn from three States in Southwest, Nigeria geo-political zone. A self-structured questionnaire will be the instrument adopted for the study. Stratified and purposive random sampling technique of 50% proportionate will be used in the selection of the participants. There will be test-retest reliability value to be obtained for the instrument using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient and data from the study would be analyzed with the use of frequency counts and percentages for demographic data while inferential statistics of Multiple Regression (MR) will be used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha levels. Findings of the study shall reveal the impact of brand management, capacity building, psychological state and financial management of athletes on economic viability in Southwest Nigeria. Based on the findings, recommendations would be stated to further widen the scope of athletes’ image management towards athletes’ retirement for good life after active sport participation and to remove many of the constraints hindering the growth and development of sports in Southwest, Nigeria
