This paper examined human trafficking in Nigerian society as one of the most recent and widespread social menaces. It scrutinised the concept of human trafficking and identified some of the outstanding reasons such as greed, poverty etc., that make the illicit trade to flourish in Nigeria and most other developing countries. Reference was made to the theories of anomie and functionalism to justify the existence of the seemingly lucrative business – human trafficking in most societies. The phenomenon was discovered to have taken a modernised dimension, thus affecting the full development of human capital in the country. Some useful suggestions were advanced to help in winning the global war against the trade in human persons.en_US
