This paper describes a research study that was undertaken to identify the main sources of information and knowledge about HIV/AIDS in Nigeria as well as the factors that enhance the adoption of positive health and sexual behaviour among urban and rural dwellers. This is expected to throw more light on how best to design HIV/A105preventive education that is effective in reducing the rate of HIV infection in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted and a total of 1200 respondents, comprising 600 from urban and rural areas were drawn using a multistage sampling technique. Two research. questions were formulated and one hypothesis was tested. A questionnaire was used to collect data and my data collected were analysed using a simple percentage and the chi-square was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 alpha level. The study revealed that mass media (radio and television) were the main sources of information about HIV/AIDS while there was no significant difference between the factors that influence the health and sexual behaviour of urban and rural dwellers. It was recommended that HIV/ AIDS messages should be culturally appropriate and that in addition to the mass media, interpersonal communication channels should be employed to enhance the effectiveness of HIV/AIDS education in preventing HIV infection.en_US
