Abstract
The lecture, delivered by Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, Chief Justice of Nigeria, explores the transformative potential of digital technologies in enhancing the efficiency, accessibility, and transparency of Nigeria's judiciary. It examines the multifaceted perceptions of justice in Nigeria, highlighting challenges such as delays, procedural complexities, and limited access for marginalized groups. The lecture traces the judiciary's adoption of digital tools, including virtual court proceedings, e-filing, case management systems, digital recording, and AI, spurred by initiatives like the 2012 Judicial Information Technology Policy. While acknowledging legal, ethical, and infrastructural challenges, it emphasizes the need for inclusion, trust, and sustainability in judicial digitization. The lecture calls for collaboration among judicial officers, legal practitioners, legislators, technology companies, and civil society to build a resilient, citizen-centric judiciary that upholds the rule of law and public confidence through strategic technological integration.
