For more than two decades since the first case of the Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV) was reported in Nigeria, several efforts have been made to curb its daunting and devastating effects. Such efforts include massive education and dissemination of information and knowledge about HIV-AIDS through various media. However, available reports show that the country is far from winning the battle against the deadly disease. This study sought to identify major sources of information and knowledge about, HIVIAlDS in urban and rural areas in selected states in Nigeria. It also asses the factors that propel individuals, to make health and sexual behaviour change. The study employed the survey design; the population of the study consisted of urban and rural dwellers within the age range of 15 - 49 years. A total of 1200 respondents were selected using the multistage sampling procedure comprising, Stratified, Cluster, and purposeful sampling techniques. The main instrument for data collection was the questionnaire, developed by the researcher and validated by experts in the field. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics such as tables and simple percentages while the hypothesis was tested using Chi-square. The study revealed among other things that radio and television were the main sources of information and knowledge about HIV-AIDS while information from stars or models was rated last by both urban and rural dwellers. Interestingly, the study also revealed that religion and cultures are the main factors that propel urban and rural dwellers respectively to change their health behaviours. The study recommended that HIV-AIDS and another disease preventive education in Nigeria should employ interpersonal communication channels ill addition to the mass media, -that HIV-AIDS and other health awareness messages should be culturally appropriate.en_US
