This study was carried out to investigate Cooperative Learning and its effects on the academic performance of junior secondary school Igbo language learners in Lagos State. Pre-test, post-test, the quasi-experimental design was adopted for this study. The sample for the study was 267 participants, comprising male and female JSS two students, drawn from six secondary schools cutting across missionary, unity and private schools in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Pre-test and Post-test research instruments were used to generate data for the study, and the generated data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), and Independent T-Test. The result from the hypotheses testing led to the rejection of the three formulated. The study revealed that students obtain higher learning outcomes and they are more willing to cooperate when they work in small structured groups where they are interdependently linked so that all group members understand that they must contribute if the group is to achieve its goal. The results of the study also showed that female students were found to outperform male students academically.
