- ItemOpen AccessTheo-Theoretical Framework: An Integrated Approach to Research in Islamic Education(Unilag Press, Lagos, 2020) Rahman, A.AThe justification for this study is that, despite the effort of many Islamic scholars to distinguish Islamic research methods from the conventional ones, the level of its development cannot provide us with a presentable Islamic-based research methodology for Islamic sciences in our universities. While some scholars submitted that the foremost Muslim scholars developed the conventional methods and should just be streamlined to fit for academic use in Islamic sciences, others affirmed that the divine theory benchmarking the original method has been expunged from it. This study presents the means of infusing the divine approach into the conventional research methods. Using the inductive method and analogy, the paper establishes a theoretical framework as a basic component of any research endeavor and proves that only research methods sourced from or in tandem with divine ethos could solve man's problems. The discourse finally prepares a template for integrating the "Theo-theoretical framework" into the conventional research methods.
- ItemOpen AccessA Critical review of Zakah Management Approaches in Southwest Nigeria(UNILAG Press, Lagos, 2021) Oloke, M.A; Rahman, A.AThe historical significance of Zakah and its effectiveness in combating socio-economic problems of society was demonstrated during the era of early Muslims. This is an affirmation of the effectiveness of Zakat as a veritable means of poverty alleviation and reduction. The potency of Zakah in playing this role is, first of all, contingent upon its effective collection. This paper discusses critically the challenges hindering the effective collection of Zakah and the prominent approaches in Zakat administration. In addressing the problems associated with the existing medium of Zakat collection, especially in a multi-religious environment like Southwest Nigeria, the paper proposes a holistic approach that ensures that collectable Zakah are fully tapped, through the instrumentality of massive education, payment platforms that provide friendly options, and the use of technology.

- ItemOpen AccessThe Effects of Cooperative Learning on Academic Performance of Nigerian JSS 2 Language Students: Igbo Language as a Case Study(Department of Arts and Social Sciences Education, University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos Nigeria, 2019-09-01) Opara, C. C; Emodi, B. C.This study was carried out to investigate Cooperative Learning and its effects on the academic performance of junior secondary school Igbo language learners in Lagos State. Pre-test, post-test, the quasi-experimental design was adopted for this study. The sample for the study was 267 participants, comprising male and female JSS two students, drawn from six secondary schools cutting across missionary, unity and private schools in the Yaba Local Government Area of Lagos State. Three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Pre-test and Post-test research instruments were used to generate data for the study, and the generated data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), and Independent T-Test. The result from the hypotheses testing led to the rejection of the three formulated. The study revealed that students obtain higher learning outcomes and they are more willing to cooperate when they work in small structured groups where they are interdependently linked so that all group members understand that they must contribute if the group is to achieve its goal. The results of the study also showed that female students were found to outperform male students academically.
