Educational theories are meant to be guiding principles that shape educational practices, yet, there seems to be probable gap between educational theories (pedagogy/andragogy) and its implementation among teachers in the colleges of education which tends to affect the quality of educational output in Nigeria. The study therefore, examined the effective implementation of educational theories in teacher’s preparation in the colleges of education in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey research design of “ex-post-facto” type. The population of the study consists of three Colleges of Education lecturers in Lagos State. Purposive random sampling technique was used to select three hundred and thirty-five lecturers from the colleges selected. Three research questions were raised, and one hypothesis was postulated to guide the study. A self-constructed 20-item questionnaire was designed for data collection. The reliability coefficient of 0.97 was obtained for the instrument. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used specifically to test the hypothesis at 0.05 significance level. The findings of the study revealed that; wrong application of pedagogical/andragogical theories used in teaching and simpliciter in the practice of education as a profession serves as some of the gaps between these theories and its effective practices. The study therefore, recommends that government should provide continuous and professional training involving competencies, attitudinal and behavioural changes to professionals and the inchoate ones so as to bridge the gap between educational theories and its practices in the colleges of education in Nigeria.en_US
