dc.description.abstract | The critical roles of Early Childhood Education (ECE) Managers in promoting early childhood and school age education require that ECE managers need to be knowledgeable and equipped with skills to contend with administrative challenges in pre-primary schools. The purpose was to ascertain administrative competencies required by ECE managers and examine how these administrative competencies relate to professionalism and work experience. The study was guided with three research questions and one hypothesis. The descriptive survey design was used. The sample consisted of 243 head teachers selected from 1009 primary schools in Lagos State. Data were collected using the Administrative Competencies of Early Childhood Education Managers Questionnaire (ACECEMQ) and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean scores and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (r). Results obtained shows that all the identified administrative competencies were highly required by ECE managers; most of the administrative principles are highly applied by ECE managers; to an high extent, professionalism influences administrative competencies of ECE managers and there was significant relationship between work experience and administrative competencies of ECE managers in pre-primary schools. It was concluded that there is need to create a system of tiered professional development for ECE professionals based on core knowledge and administrative competencies.
