Abstract
The youth who are the most productive part of the economic plays tremendous roles towards national development and integration. Unfortunately, youth are not given the necessary attentions by the authorities concerned in incorporating them into the process of national development in Nigeria. The study, therefore, investigates the perception of rural youths on factors responsible for ethnic violence in Nigeria. The study employs a cross-sectional survey using self-report questionnaires and chi-square technique. 200 questionnaires were distributed to individuals whose age falls between 18 and 40, in Ajegunle, Makoko, Ikoyi and Ilaje rural area among others in Lagos state. The findings show that ethnic violence will always result into an increase in poverty, living condition, and injustice, weaken mutual tolerance, social hatred and violence, increase levels of immorality, oppression, and social disorder. The implications of the findings for youth development are discussed.
