Abstract
In recent times, the world has been battling devastating natural disasters which manifest in form of hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and wildfires, and so on. Evidently, these natural disasters claim millions of lives annually with the attendant wanton destruction of properties worth billions of dollars. In spite of concerted efforts put in place by various governments to contain the menace, especially in the countries that are prone to these disasters, a permanent solution is yet to be guaranteed. Perhaps, what is lacking is the ability to have control over the nature. The purpose of this study therefore is to examine the information contained in the Glorious Qur'an with a view to getting an insight on the possibility of taming the nature as conceptualised by Islam. The historical research method is employed by the study in order to ascertain whether what the present nations are experiencing had been experienced in the past. The results revealed that some past generations had also suffered similar experiences as a result of their defiance to the divine messages. Moreover, the Qur'an provides information on the possibility of taming the nature among others. It was therefore recommended that to achieve permanent solution, there is need to recognise the existence of the Owner and the Maker of the nature, from whom man can derive the power to tame the nature. Furthermore, there is a need to consider divine information in providing solutions to the issues of natural disasters alongside the human efforts which is termed science and technological breakthrough. The paper concludes that synergy between Islam and science is the way to go as to bring a permanent solution to the menace.
