O.All religions have the innate capacity to enhance peace, unity, reconciliation, and sustainable development, yet religion, and by extension religious leaders, have been fingered as both a source of global crises and peace. Unfortunately, too much emphasis is placed on the negative than the positive role of religion towards global peace. To change the narrative, this paper appraises the efforts of a prominent Nigerian religious leader, Olumba Olumba Obu (OOO) and the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), on the unification of the human race and global peace as encapsulated in his numerous teachings and practices. Adopting the functional theory of religion, the paper probes into these questions: How do OOO and the BCS perceive peace? What are the specific pathways and approaches to global peace? How do the social institutions of BCS contribute to peace? This research uses the qualitative research technique through a literature survey and the Key Informant Interview (KII) methods. Findings show that the four pathways of Leader OOO and the BCS could enhance efforts at the unification of humanity and the attainment of the lasting peace at both local and international levels.
- ItemOpen AccessSemiotic Dimensions and Filmic Projections of African Socio-Cultural Realities in Selected Mount Zion Films(GJRT: Ghana Journal of Religion and Theology, 2024-12-27) Falako, F. O.This paper discusses audience perceptions of how two Mount Zion films (The Gods Are Dead, and Land of Fury) project African culture. Also, it probes into the implications of the attitude of Evangelical films to African cultural practices. The study is a case-oriented qualitative comparative analysis; it adopts an ethnographic method to elicit data using a structured questionnaire, in-depth interviews with Key Informants (KII), and Focused Group Discussions (FGD) methods. Between October 2021 and March 2022, the researcher screened the two videos to purposively selected audiences in the cities of Lagos, Enugu and Abuja. Findings reveal convergences and areas of divergences between African and Biblical worldviews, distortions and a negative portrayal of African realities. The study recommends an empathetic appreciation of African culture and further analytical studies towards identifying the trends and twists in producing evangelical videos.
- ItemOpen AccessRe-thinking Romanization of Arabic Islamic Script.(Tarbiya, Journal of Education in Muslim Society, 2017-06-20) Abdul-Raheem, B. and Adegoke, K.A.The needed vital instrument to achieve this venture requires the invention of transliteration and transcription of Arabic letters into non-Arabic letters which were successfully done in Romanization of Arabic-Islamic Scripts. Thus, the paper attempts to examine the Romanization of Arabic-Islamic Scripts in the twin discipline of Arabic and Islamic Studies in the occidental world. It is a case study research examining the historical evolution of transliteration and transcription of Arabic letters into non-Arabic letters in which the distinction and lack of uniformity of Romanization of Arabic- Islamic Scripts are fully explored. The paper would finally take us through the fundamental role played by the CJK! Arabic Romanization System (CARS) in the recent innovation in the Romanization of Arabic-Islamic Scripts in the twin discipline of Arabic and Islamic Studies in the Western-oriented institution of learning. The purpose is to see what element of innovative development ushered in the recent Arabic-Islamic scholarship in the methods of transliteration and transcription of Arabic letters into non- Arabic letters.

- ItemOpen AccessTaming the nature and saving the earth: Synergy between Islam and science(East African Researcher, 2021-12-18) Abdul-Raheem, B.In recent times, the world has been battling devastating natural disasters which manifest in form of hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and wildfires, and so on. Evidently, these natural disasters claim millions of lives annually with the attendant wanton destruction of properties worth billions of dollars. In spite of concerted efforts put in place by various governments to contain the menace, especially in the countries that are prone to these disasters, a permanent solution is yet to be guaranteed. Perhaps, what is lacking is the ability to have control over the nature. The purpose of this study therefore is to examine the information contained in the Glorious Qur'an with a view to getting an insight on the possibility of taming the nature as conceptualised by Islam. The historical research method is employed by the study in order to ascertain whether what the present nations are experiencing had been experienced in the past. The results revealed that some past generations had also suffered similar experiences as a result of their defiance to the divine messages. Moreover, the Qur'an provides information on the possibility of taming the nature among others. It was therefore recommended that to achieve permanent solution, there is need to recognise the existence of the Owner and the Maker of the nature, from whom man can derive the power to tame the nature. Furthermore, there is a need to consider divine information in providing solutions to the issues of natural disasters alongside the human efforts which is termed science and technological breakthrough. The paper concludes that synergy between Islam and science is the way to go as to bring a permanent solution to the menace.
