Abstract
The study examined the perceived influence of business education programme on poverty reduction among students' of Ogun State-owned university. The study was tailored by 3 research questions. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of the study comprised a total of 3,594 undergraduates of Tai Solarin University of Education. A total of 430 business education students were selected which cut across gender (male<: and female) and level. Self-structured instrument title: Business Education and Poverty' Reduction Questionnaire (BEPRQ) with 0.89 as reliability coefficient was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used in answering research questions 1 and 2 while research question 3 was answered using regression
analysis. The findings of the study revealed that laziness to engage in entrepreneurial activities, lack of economic infrastructure, inadequate finance, poor orientation, lack of entrepreneurial village and fear of failure were among the causes of poverty among the business education students'. If all things being equal, business education programme has tendency of reducing poverty among its recipients. Compulsory internship programme for business education students, establishment of entrepreneurial village, entrepreneurial training, provision of financial impetus, provision of economic infrastructure and SMEs mentoring were among the possible strategies that can be adopted towards poverty reduction among students' of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State. The recommends among other things that government in collaboration with university management should ensure internship programme be provided for business education students which hope to further expose them to the real world of business and better understands the important of the skills they have learnt in for poverty reduction.
