Abstract
The main focus of this paper is to determine Government/Financial Accounting Skills needed by Business educators for effective teaching of financial Accounting in Secondary Schools. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for this study. The population consisted all financial accounting teachers in Bauchi State (228) Government owned public schools. All the population was used for the study. Three research questions guided the study. Structured questionnaire titled Government Accounting Skills Questionnaire (GASQ) developed in five point likert scale was used as instrument for data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts and the reliability was established at 0.72 using Cronbach Alpha Descriptive Statistics. Findings revealed that government/financial accounting skills such as: recording, analyzing, classifying, computing, summarizing, communicating and interpreting are needed for effective teaching of financial accounting in secondary schools. It was recommended among others that accounting professional ethics of honesty et, probity accountability should be imbibed in the students during the course of teaching and learning.
