dc.description.abstract | All religions have the innate capacity to enhance peace, unity, reconciliation, and sustainable development, yet religion, and by extension religious leaders, have been fingered as both a source of global crises and peace. Unfortunately, too much emphasis is placed on the negative than the positive role of religion towards global peace. To change the narrative, this paper appraises the efforts of a prominent Nigerian religious leader, Olumba Olumba Obu (OOO) and the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star (BCS), on the unification of the human race and global peace as encapsulated in his numerous teachings and practices. Adopting the functional theory of religion, the paper probes into these questions: How do OOO and the BCS perceive peace? What are the specific pathways and approaches to global peace? How do the social institutions of BCS contribute to peace? This research uses the qualitative research technique through a literature survey and the Key Informant Interview (KII) methods. Findings show that the four pathways of Leader OOO and the BCS could enhance efforts at the unification of humanity and the attainment of the lasting peace at both local and international levels. | |
