In realization of the pertinence of research to every postgraduate programme, postgraduate students are made to undergo a compulsory research course to expose them to the rudiments of research methodology and also teach and train them on how to conduct and report research. Despite the time spent on the research methodology course, most postgraduate students find it difficult to conduct and report research without relying on consultants that collect gratification from them. Several reasons have been attributed to being responsible for the situation. This study, therefore, attempts to examine the attitude and perception of the importance of research methodology course among postgraduate students. The study employed the survey design. The population of the study consisted of all Masters Students from the University of Lagos that have completed their first semester. A total of two hundred respondents were purposively selected. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The study revealed that; postgraduate students have a negative attitude towards research, have a poor perception about the importance of research, the study identified students' inability to comprehend statistical techniques and analysis, poor competency of research teachers and laziness on the part of students as cogent factors influencing research knowledge. It was concluded and recommended from the findings of the study that since attitude plays important role in students' ability to perform well in a particular subject; teachers of research should make effort to counteract negative attitudes by relating research courses to students' real-life experience. Content of research courses should be student-oriented, practical, and participatory.en_US
