This paper explores the rationality of the verbal arts in the indigenous healthcare delivery system and health-related issues in the pre and post-colonial era. By this, we mean that some areas such as the uses and functions of the Yorùbá verbal arts in health-related matters could be rationally explained, in an ethno-scientific manner. Therefore, our discussion centres on the Yorùbá verbal arts used in the prevention and cure of health-related problems such as infant mortality, unwanted pregnancy, prolonged labour, accident, robbery, embarrassment, depression, barrenness, etc. based on the origin of the invention of healthcare practice from time immemorial.en_US
