dc.description.abstractThis study examines the role of the mass media in Nigeria from independence till 2008, particularly the role of the mass media as it relates to consolidating democracy. The study assessed the role of the mass media and concluded that the watchdog role of the media has not helped build a democratic culture in Nigerians. The study recommended that the mass media adopt a multi-polar method of reporting unlike the usual balance method of reportingen_US
