Abstract
It is becoming daily news item to read about dangers of love relationships such as a husband killing his wife or the wife killing her husband or about a father sexually violating his own daughter for one reason or the other. This study investigated the role of social workers in addressing the phenomenon of household violence in Alimosho community. The study adopted a purposive sampling technique to select 24 consenting participants. Using social exchange and social learning theories as explanatory framework, the study explained behaviour involving inhumanity such as physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone. The study revealed the reporting channels; measures and intervention programmes and challenges faced by social workers in Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) departments in the study area during the course of their duty. The study concluded that domestic violence is a reality in homes but with the measures and interventions put in place, the incidence will be alleviated in Alimosho community.
