Fundamental life skills that determine children’s future success are formed and nurtured during the early years. Despite how informative the early years are, empirical evidence has proven that achievement of pupils is poor. This has prompted numerous scholars to examine factors that could be responsible for this consistent poor performance. Among the factors reported were teachers’ characteristics, school climate, lack of instructional materials, teachers’ content knowledge, teaching methodologies among others. Other factors which have not really received much research attention that could also be responsible for the poor performance of pupils are primary schools’ teachers’ attitudes and motivation. Thus, this study examined teachers’ attitudes and motivation as correlate of pupils’ achievement. Two hypotheses were tested. Descriptive survey research design of the correlational type was used and simple randomly sampling technique was used to select 80 teachers and eighty 80 pupils. Two validated self- designed instruments were used to collect data namely “Teachers’ Attitude and Motivation Questionnaire” (TAMQ, r = 0.82) and “Pupils’ Achievement Test (PAT, r = 0.89). Data collected were analysed using inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC). Findings showed that a positive significant relationship exists between teachers’ attitudes and pupils’ achievement (r = .10; p<0.05) and a positive significant relationship exists between teachers’ motivation and pupils’ achievement (r = .229; p<0.05). Hence, it was recommended that federal government and private schools’ owners should pay teachers’ salaries promptly to further motivate teachers so as to gain sustainable development in the teaching profession.en_US
