Abstract
Graphology is a communicative tool whose vast contribution to meaning-making in literary works still needs to be explored. This paper focuses on the communicative strategies employed by Kola Akinlade in his detective novels, with a view to bringing to the fore his idiosyncratic style, thereby establishing the aesthetic and communicative exploration of language. Systemic Theory; a descriptive theory which can explain any aspect of texts, be it phonological, morphological, synctactic, graphological and semantic, is adopted as the linguistic framework to analyze all the eleven detective novels of Kola Akinlade namely;Ta 16 pa Qmpoba, Owpte Amookunsika, Aldsi Olpgo, QwpEje, Aja to nlepa Ekun, Agbako NileTete, Asenibanidaro, SangbaFp, Ta Id gbingi Oro?, Ta LOleAjpmogbe, and A.slri AmookunJale Tu. Only two features of Graphology; namely capitalization and itaiicization are discussed in this paper. The study establishes that capitalization serves foregrounding and aesthetic purposes, while itaiicization provides stylistic variations, which attract readers to writers’ messages.
