- ItemOpen AccessAn Evaluation of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) for Health Care Providers in Lagos State(Research Journal in Organizational Psychology & Educational Studies (RJOPES), 2012) Bakare, T.V; Alade, O.M; Onwuama, M.The ability to develop the self is invaluable to the modern health practitioner in Nigeria, given their involvement with human lives. This is further necessitated by the advent of new diseases and innovative cures and technology use in the field of medicine. The study set out to describe the current status of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) practices of health professionals in Lagos State. The survey examined the adoption of CPE and ICT compliance. The stratified random sampling technique was used to select 190 respondents from across three different health care institutions both in the private and public sectors. The questionnaire tagged QHCP (r ∞ 71) was used to collect information, along with an observation schedule (guided by a six-item check list). Simple percentage was used and results were presented graphically. The relevant variables in the study include level of involvement of the regulatory bodies as well as the integration and adoption of Continuing Professional Education in the health care system in the nation. The results revealed that the adoption of post certification education is not handled with the deserved level of seriousness and also that the level of ICT compliance in the industry is rather low. The study therefore recommends the increased monitoring and regulating of CPE in the health industry along with ICT use. The implication for adult education, evaluation and the health industry is that CPE must be re-emphasized in a bid to encourage lifelong learning and continued self improvement/development in innovative ways worthy of a constantly changing world. It is definitely forward-looking to ensure that health practitioners constantly re-train to maintain a healthy State and Nation.
- ItemOpen AccessFramework for Implementing Corporate Social Responsibility in Private Organizations in Nigeria(University of Lagos: Department of Lifelong and continuing Education., 2017) Bakare, T.V; Ememe, P.I; Kolawole, O.TBusiness organisations are involved in activities they term “Corporate Social Responsibility”, most of the time, these activities are presented with so much noise and at the end does not really benefit the business organizations nor the communities at the receiving end. With these “Corporate Social Responsibility” activities focusing most times on building the business organisations name, reputation and goodwill, it gives little or no real benefit to the community. The real issues are to develop an appropriate strategy which can benefit both business organizations and the community simultaneously. Thus this paper attempts to provide a realistic framework for both business organisations and the communities to assess the true opportunities and benefits of Corporate Social Responsibility.
- ItemOpen AccessQuality Assurance: Perceptions of Continuous Assessment Practice at the Undergraduate Level of some Nigerian Universities. Quality Assurance Mechanism in Nigerian Education.(Nigerian Academy of Education, 2012) Ilogu, G.C; Oke, C.O; Alade, O.M; Bakare, T.VAssessment is an aspect of quality assurance in Education. Assessment is a burning issue in many countries including Nigeria. This is because its use for placement of students, diagnosis of learning problems and certification. The Nigerian government in the National Policy on Education stipulates that the main mode of assessment at every level of education should be by Continuous Assessment (CA) and this has since been complied with by every institution of learning in the country. Observations show that CA practice is open to series of abuses, hence it is being closely monitored at the Primary and Secondary schools’ levels of education but this cannot be said of the tertiary level of education. Undoubtedly, the need to closely monitor CA practice in tertiary institutions, particularly in universities, cannot be ignored because of the major function of certifying the specially trained personnel for the society in her various areas of need. Perception is a construct known to affect what a person sees, how it is seen and how the person reacts to situations and things generally. The study looked at the perceptions of CA practice at the undergraduate level in Nigerian universities. Four research questions guided the study while the sample comprised 92 lecturers and 921 undergraduates. Ten universities (Federal and State) in Nigeria were used for the study. The survey research design was adopted for this purpose. The instruments used for data collection were Undergraduates Questionnaire for Continuous Assessment Practice in the Universities, and Lecturers’ Questionnaire for Continuous Assessment Practice in the Universities. Data collected were analyze using descriptive statistics. The result, among others, indicated a trend of negative perceptions of CA practice by Lecturers and students alike but in varying degrees. The implications of the findings for quality assurance in education were highlighted.
