- ItemOpen AccessApplication of AHP to investment portfolio selection in the banking sector of the Nigerian capital market(Journal of Economics and International Finance, 2010) Oyatoye, E. O.; Okpokpo, G. U.; Adekoya, A. G.The importance of investment to the individual, a nation and world economy cannot be over emphasized. Investment involves the sacrifice of immediate consumption to achieve greater consumption in the future. Western economies has emphasized saving and investment as the engine of economic growth. The Nigerian banking sector has made tremendous success in the recent past. All the banks that approached the capital market via public offers and right issues to raise their capital base recorded huge success. Apart from the fact that banks are experiencing structural expansion and high –posted profits, the investors in bank stocks are also enjoying high returns on investment, despite the slow growth in the nation’s economy. However, the recent financial crisis that started in America, which has caused economy meltdown in many nations of the world and sudden fall in share prices, has brought about a higher risk than envisaged on investors, particularly those investing in bank stocks. Hence, great care and monitoring is required on the part of investors to ensure that fund invested does not go down the drain. This paper applies the Analytic Hierarchy Process to determine the importance of the various criteria, factors and alternatives that are very essential to successful investment decisions in the face of the current recession.
- ItemOpen AccessCorporate social responsibility: are firms in Nigeria actually giving back or giving away?(International Journal of Business Excellence, 2012) Oluwafemi, O.J.; Oyatoye, E.OFirms that are less rational in their socially responsible actions might just be giving away rather than actually given back because they are unable to prioritise their socially responsible efforts. The extent to which firms in Nigeria apply rational decision techniques for prioritising their socially responsible actions is unknown. Therefore, this study analysed three primary stakeholder groups to which firms concentrate their social responsibility efforts using analytic hierarchical process (AHP). Cross-sectional design, quota, simple random, and convenient sampling techniques were employed to obtain responses from 225 corporate affairs officers in various quoted companies. Responses were placed on a 3 × 3 matrix estimates of perception of primary stakeholder groups that received attention. Socio-cultural and economic stakeholders rated much lower than the priority accorded political constituency. Alternative priorities for the dimensions of stakeholder salience were also higher for legitimacy and power more than urgency. The implications of these findings were discussed
- ItemOpen AccessPrioritisation of Ferry Commuters' needs in Lagos Metropolis: An Analytical Hierarchical Process Approach(Scientific Journal of Silesian University of Technology, Series Transport, 2020) Hart, E. C.; Adebiyi, S.O.; Oyenuga, O.G.Understanding the needs of ferry service commuters cannot be overemphasis, considering the fact that the survival of any business largely depends on the volume of its customer base, and how well they are satisfied with the level of services received. More so, owing to the high population of Lagos state and usual traffic congestion across main roads during the peak periods, water transportation via ferries undoubtedly becomes a viable alternative to ensure stakeholders satisfaction in urban planning for a city majorly surrounded by water providers. Thus, this study employs the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to prioritise the ferry services needs of commuters to make effective managerial decisions that will aid efficiency in their operations, thereby, increasing the market penetration, competitive edge and commuter satisfaction. A sample size of two hundred and four was computed through purposive sampling procedure. The data retrieved were analysed using pairwise comparison in line with AHP methodology. The study found out that among the criteria measured, comfort was perceived more important to commuters compared to its pairs. In addition, recreational facilities, ease of online payment, regular maintenance of waterways and seating with good legroom were ranked high by the commuters. Therefore, to ensure a sustainable competitive advantage over other modes of transportation, these indicators need to be effectively considered in water transportation policy.
