Abstract
This study examines the relationship between civil society mass media and development with particular reference to Nigeria. The thesis of the study includes that civil society and mass media are two societal institutions in pursuits of one goal---- development, but using slightly different approaches and strategies. The conclusion of the study includes that in a society that is civil, there is no doubt that democracy fosters hope which leads to people being actively involved in government and by extension in the development of their country
