Abstract
The University of Lagos was established in 1962 with its first set of students commencing lectures at the temporary site in Idi-Araba on October 3, 1962. It is therefore heartwarming that the University will attain its diamond jubilee on Monday, October 3, 2022. There is no doubt that the University has lived up to the expectations of its founding fathers, and this is exemplified by the quality of graduates produced over the years, the impactful research our faculty members have carried out, and indeed, the many positive ways we have affected the national and global community. While being mindful of the current situation pervading the Nigerian university system, Management believes that celebrating the 60 years of impact is a way of honouring all members of the community - past and present - whose vision, passion and labour have enabled the University to achieve its enviable height as Nigeria's University of First Choice, and the Nation’s Pride. To this end, some activities have been lined up to kick off the yearlong celebrations both at the Akoka and Idi-Araba Campuses. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and Management request that you join them at these celebration events. 1) Friday, 30th September 2022 @ 1.00pm Juma'at Prayers Unilag Mosque 2) Sunday, 1st October 2022 @ 10.30am Special Thanksgiving Service Chapel of Christ Our Lord. 3) Monday, October 3, 2022 a) "Touchdown at the Root" CMUL, Idi-Araba @ 10.00am b) Exhibition of Photos Akoka Campus @ 3.00pm c) Vice-Chancellor's Cocktail @ 6.00pm Kindly note that all Deans and Directors are expected to be present on-site for the Touchdown Event @ Idi-Araba.
