Abstract
As civilization unfurls and expands its frontiers occasioned by human activities, it exposes alongside Nature certain underlying systems and subsystems. These systems consist of nature itself, its resources, the environment and the circumstantial benefitsand challenges. In the course of the endeavors to achieve sustainable development for the present and future generations, human beings have put in place various infrastructure to enhance peaceful existence. Over time, many of these infrastructures have become exposed and require protection. This paper attempts to articulate the concepts of sustainable development and critical infrastructure, its gradual development into systems and subsystems vis-à-vis the natural environment that sustains it and the needfor its protection by harnessing critical information. It explains the intervention role of government in terms of regulatory procedure, policy, strategies and partnership with other entities at national, state or regional and local levels.
