Abstract
Drug abuse and misuse is a serious problem in most developing countries including Nigeria. Short-term effects of drug abuse or misuse may have grave effect on a person’s physical health, mental health, and overall well-being in most cases it may lead to death. Five research hypotheses were developed to guide the study while the study adopted a quasi-experimental design. The population covered all community women in Makoko and Ilaje areas of Lagos State. Two markets each were drawn using a simple random sampling technique from the communities. The markets were randomly assigned to treatment and control groups respectively. The instruments used for data collection were a Malaria Prevention & Management Practice Mobile Package (MPMPMP) and Malaria Management and Practice Questionnaire (MMPQ) developed by the Researcher. The Malaria Management and Practice Questionnaire (MMPQ) has 50 items with ranking options from 1-4. Findings from the study indicate that the level of misuse of malaria medication in the areas of management and practice can be reduced through mobile phone technology. Based on the findings it was recommended amongst others things that women should be given medical information in their local language through the use of the mobile phone since it is always at their disposal.
