Abstract
Some writers of modern literature have shown in their works a considerable level of influence of classical literatures on them. Some factors responsible for this are the late emergence of written Igbo literature. There were no written works on Igbo poetry and drama until early 1970s, after the Nigerian civil war. It is unimaginable therefore that what were available in the school curricula for the teachers and students to fall back on were only classical literary works.
