Abstract
This study investigated the possible factors affecting Federal Government expenditure on education in Nigeria. Secondary data were obtained on the possible factors affecting the public expenditure on education in Nigeria (1980-2009). The collected data were analysed using step-wise regression analysis. The findings revealed that 93% of variations in public expenditure on education were accounted for I::Y the included variables. Internally collected tax revenue; government size and political instability were found to be the significant variables affecting government expenditure on education in Nigeria. The stu4J therefore recommends that Nigeria Federal Government should look inwards to renew its growth in the educational sector through a deliberate management of the domestic economy, reform tax policy, and introduce additional taxes to curb luxurious private consumption.
