Abstract
The study investigated the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) as a medium of instruction on teaching and learning of economics in secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. These were with a view to improving the quality of classroom teaching and learning of economics. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The data for the study were collected with the aid of structured questionnaire, through stratified random sampling, from a sample of 200 economics teachers of senior secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria. Pearson product moment correlation coefficient statistic was used to analyse the data. The results revealed that the use of ICT as a medium of instruction in the classroom by economics teachers have significant impact on the learning outcome in economics by the students. Furthermore, ICT as a medium of instruction in teaching and learning of economics significantly facilitates effective teaching of economics secondary schools. Thus, the study recommends that Lagos state and indeed the country has to adopt Information and Communication Technology in order to enhance effective classroom teaching and learning of Economics as well as other subjects at all level of secondary education.
