- ItemOpen AccessComparative Analysis of Students' Satisfaction with Classroom Facilities in Nigerian Private Universities(Journal of Studies in Education, 2015) Oluwunmi, A.O; Durodola, O.D; Ajayi, C.AIn order for educational institutions to meet national and international standards, users preferences becomes an essential determinant of user satisfaction with facilities provided in such institutions. This study evaluates students' satisfaction with classroom facilities in three (3) private Universities in Ado-Odo Local Government Council Area, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria. A total of five hundred and seventy (570) questionnaires were administered to students, and four hundred and thirty-two (432) representing 76% were returned and analysed. It was found that students were satisfied with electricity supply, ceiling finishes, windows/doors and furniture in their classrooms but, they were not satisfied with the provision and availability of air-conditioning and internet facilities in classrooms. However, when the results were analysed to reflect the findings for each University, they showed different levels of satisfaction and dissatisfaction. The study recommended that the Management of each University should work continuously towards ensuring that this essential facility is given priority in financial decisions and provisions. Essentially, this study would assist University policy-makers to allocate resources more effectively and efficiently since allocation of resources is critical to attaining excellence in a competitive academic environment.
- ItemOpen AccessEffects of Characteristics of Nigerian Students on Perceived Satisfaction of Academic Facilities in Private Universities in Ogun State, Nigeria(African Research Review,, 2014) Oluwunmi, A.O; Ajayi, C.AStudents' retention amongst the competitive private Universities in Nigeria leads to issues of students' satisfaction which is relatively sparse in literature. This study thereby examined the relationship between selected students' characteristics (sex, age, year of study and type of sponsorship) on the students’ satisfaction in three (3) private Universities in Ado - Odo Local Government Council, Ogun State, Nigeria. A total of four hundred and thirty two (432) questionnaires, representing 76% of the sample size, were used for analysis. The result of the analysis using cross-tabulation, Mann-whitney U Test and Krustal Wallis showed that there is no close relationship between sex, age, year of study and type of sponsorship and satisfaction with academic facilities in the Universities. However, this result is not totally conclusive, particularly for Covenant University, as further analysis revealed that mode of sponsorship is significant. Further research is thereby advocated.
- ItemOpen AccessMeasuring Students' Perception of Classroom Quality in Private Universities in Ogun State, Nigeria Using SERVPERF(Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences, 2016) Oluwunmi, A. O; Omirin, M.M; Ajayi, C.AIn Nigeria, competition among private universities is becoming increasingly intense as investment in the sector is proving more and more viable. Students' satisfaction survey has been identified as an essential instrument for education providers to improve or enhance their service delivery in a bid to remain competitive. To demonstrate its use, this paper reports a research that uses a modified SERVPERF instrument to measure students' satisfaction with the classrooms - one of the essential academic facilities - in six out of eight private universities in Ogun State, Nigeria. A total of 1,141 questionnaires were administered to students and the data were analysed using SERVPERF dimensions (tangibility, responsiveness, reliability. assurance and empathy). Findings showed that students' satisfaction with service quality across the six private Universities is moderate. However, when the results are disaggregated to reflect the findings for each University, Babcock University is shown to have services that meet students' expectation most while Crawford University services meet their expectations least. This study is expected to pave the way for researchers who are interested in conducting further studies on students' satisfaction with service quality using SERVPERF in higher institutions in Nigeria and other countries of the world.
- ItemOpen AccessStudents' Perceived Quality of Library Facilities and Services in Nigerian Private Universities(Journal of Education and Training Studies, 2016) Oluwunmi, A.O; Durodola, O.D; Ajayi, C.AIn a highly competitive academic environment, students are becoming more selective and demanding in their choice of University. Hence, it is essential for educational institutions, particularly privately-owned institutions, to be interested in getting feedback on the quality of their facilities and services. With a focus on four private universities in Ogun State, Nigeria, this study examined students' perception of the quality of their library facilities and services. Using a modified SERVPERF questionnaire, seven hundred and forty-four (744) students were randomly selected and five hundred and eighteen (518) questionnaires were returned and analysed with SERVPERF dimensions (tangibility, responsiveness, reliability. assurance and empathy). Findings revealed that students' general perception of library services in the four (4) universities is above average, however, their perception of some facilities in the library like parking space and escape routes is very low. It is recommended that facility providers should ensure that university libraries facilities/services are given greater attention in budgeting, actual provision and quality improvement.
