- ItemOpen AccessAccess to research funding and accountability among university lecturers in South West of Nigeria(East African Journal of Educational Research and Policy, 2009) Adetoro, J.A.; Bello, S.A.; Uzoka, N.E.The study investigates the level of access to research funding and accountability among university lecturers in South West of Nigeria. Specifically, the study sets out to examine the extent to which lecturers in the universities are given grants to conduct researches and ascertain the level of accountability of research grants. The study also tried to find out if corruption and embezzlement reduces the amount of resources set aside tor research activities and the extent to which research proposals meet the necessary criteria of the funders. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the investigation. The study adopted the descriptive survey as its design and the population was made up of university lecturers from federal and state universities. The sample size comprises of 120 lecturers from each university out of. a total of ten universities bringing the totel number to 1200 lecturers. Stratified random sampling technique was employed to select the lecturers on equitable basis. Observation, interview and questionnaire were the major instruments for data col/ection. The questionnaire was validated and the reliability was ascertained with a coefficient of 0.B1. The Chi-square was the statistical method used for data analysis. Some of the major findings of the study are that the level of accountability of research grants received by the lecturers is very high. Almost all the lecturers who receive the grants account for them within the expected time limit and research reports are also forwarded as early as such research is concluded. The study concluded by recommending that lecturers should be encouraged to have access to research grants among others.
- ItemOpen AccessCapacity building through higher education : a pancea for youth employment in Nigeria(2009) Uzoka, N.E.; Adetoro, J.A.The study examines how capacity building through higher education can help to solve the problem of youth unemployment in Nigeria. Two hypotheses were formulated to guide the investigation. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study, Observation, questionnaire and job rating scale were used in collecting data for this study. The validity and reliability of the instrument were ascertained. The statistical technique used is 't' test at P < 0.05 level of significance. The result shows that the manpower supplied by the universities in Nigeria have met with the requirements of the labour market. This therefore shows that any form of unemployment among the youths may be as a result of other factors which may be associated with particular individual. It was also observed that the current educational needs of the country have nothing to do with the level of unemployment of Nigerian youths. The: study concluded by recommending that government should rejuvenate the economic sector for appropria expansion in order to create room for employment opportunities for'the Nigerian youths. There is also need for universities to prepare youths for lifelong learning which to some extent will be informal.

- ItemOpen AccessImproving the economic status of teachers: supply and demand of teachers in the labour market in Nigeria(KIU Journal of Education, 2011-01) Adetoro, J.A.; Uzoka, N.E.This study in .cstigated the economic status of teachers and how it influences their supply and demand in the labour market in Nigeria. Specifically, the study investigated how the compensation of teachers leads tc the retention of teachers in the teaching profession as well as how the supply and demand of teachers influences their attrition rate. Two hypotheses were tested in the . study. The study adopted the descriptive survey as its design and the population of the subjects was made up of all the secondary school teachers in public secondary schools in all the six districts that constitute the administrative zones in Lagos State of Nigeria. The sample size comprised 1,200 teachers selected from the six educational districts of Lagos State which represented three categories of settlements viz: urban, semi-urban and rural settlements. Random sampling technique was employed to select the teachers 011 equitable basis based on the six districts available as administrative zones of Lagos State. Questionnaire was the only instrument used in collecting data for the study. The major findings of the study are that the retention rate of teachers within Lagos State secondary schools is not dependent on the rate at which they are compensated most importantly, when oppoi.unity exists for job migration. Also, .r was discovered that the rate of supply Cl/iddemand for teachers among the Lagos State secondary schools did not determine teachers' decision either to remain as teachers or to quit t ':e job. Some recommendations are also made.
- ItemOpen AccessInformation and communication technology (ICT) option for quality assurance in tertiary institution for sustainable development(Serials publications, 2010) Bello, S.A.; Adetoro, J.A.; Uzoka, N.E.This paper examined the Information and Communication Technology (JCT) options for Quality Assurance in tertiary institutions in Lagos State. The commitment to quality in tertiary institutions must lie :a continuous process, overall and total. lCT has become ;t mechanism that could he used to achieve this continuous expansion and improvement of knowledge, skills, and qualities in the technological environment. The paper highlights that: various areas where lCT could he used to assure quality in higher education as well as sustainable development. Challenges facing the me o( lCT in higher education in Lagos State arc reviewed. lCT benchmark for quality assurance was also reviewed. Frve research questions answered ,me! three hypotheses~e~ were rested using statistical tool; such as mean, standard deviation, and t test all"lpib (to test the research hypotheses). Result (10111 the data analyzed showed a positive relationship between the dependent variable and independent variable. This indicates that the null hypotheses tested were accepted.
- ItemOpen AccessLearning on the move: The behavioural intentions of Nigerian students with disabilities(Faculty of Education, University of Malaya, Malaysia, 2018-01) Oladejo, M.A.; Adetoro, J.A.; Oyebade, S.A.; Fagunwa, A.O.There has been an increased global attention on the need to make education more flexible and accessible due to the advent of modern mobile technologies. These modern mobile technologies enable people including those with disabilities to receive education anywhere and anytime. This study therefore investigated the behavioural intentions of Nigerian Students With Disabilities (SWDs) to adopt Mobile Learning (ML). The descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected through a self-structured, validated and reliable (r=.78) questionnaire from a total of 104 purposively selected SWDs. Two research questions and one null hypothesis guided the study. Multiple Regression (MR) and Independent t-test were used for data analysis. Findings revealed that the selected five factors namely computer self-efficacy, perceived usefulness, computing skills, ease of use, and enabling environment jointly contributed 5.3% to the variance in behavioural intentions of SWDs to adopt mobile learning. Also, the relative contributions of each of the explanatory variables in order of importance were computer self-efficacy (β=.331), perceived usefulness (β=.201), computing skills (β=.111), perceived ease of use (β=.086), and enabling environment (β=.012). Significant difference in behavioural intentions to adopt mobile learning among SWDs was established based on gender (t-cal =. 303; df =102; p<.05). Although, mobile learning is still considered as a new technological innovation worldwide, its usage has grown tremendously. It is therefore recommended among others that ML providers should develop more friendly and easy to use ML systems and devices for the SWDs. The SWDs should develop positive computer self-efficacy beliefs and improve upon their computing skills.

- ItemOpen AccessQuality entrant and capacity building: model for rebranding teacher(School of Model for Education, Nigeria Open University of Nigeria, Lagos, 2011) Oni, A.A.; Adetoro, J.A.; Sule, S.A.Education as dispensed by teachers occupies a central role in national development, and then teacher education is at the epicenter of national development. That is why in most African countries, national policy on education does not lose sight of this. Such policy is premised on the belief that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers. That is why all over the world much prominence is given to the teachers because of their peculiar role in national development. Buttressing this view, Kalusi (2000)posited that the quality of any education system depends on the availability and competence of the teaching corps. Thus, the teacher factor in any educational programme is regarded as mostcrucial because what he knows can make a world of difference and what he does not know can be an irreparable loss to the development of the potentialities and abilities of the society's younger generation.
