Data W 'I c collected by the use of the instrument titled "Conflict Management Techniques ind Institutional. Efficiency Questionnaire (CMTIEQ)". The instrument was a 4- pint Likert type scale and consisted of30 items. The reliability coefficient was 0.87, using the Cronbach Alpha reliability test. The hypotheses of the study were tested using the Chi-square test and Pearson Moment Product Correlation Statistics. The findings showed that conflict is inevitable in every organization, even in the institutions of higher learning like the Universities, and that it poses threats to institutional efficiency of Nigerian public Universities. Hence, the required and mostuppropriate techniques should be deployed by institutional managers to address -onflicts in order to promote peace and increase performance and institutional -fficiency, Premised on these findings, it was recommended that managers of tertiary institutions should pay more attention to conflict management in their various in titutions and organisations by deploying the appropriate conflict management I ichniques to arrest conflicts as this will provide more opportunities for innovation nnd growth within the organisations.

- ItemOpen AccessThe impact of teacher information consciousness on student academic performance(African Journal of Educational Management, 2001) Bello, S.A.Communication is imperative for organizational functioning. Without adequate communication a social organization cannot junction appropriately. Like other social organization colleges and universities have dire need for effective communication: They require systematic means of collecting, organizing, and sharing information. . Effective communication is a function of high level of information consciousness. To this end, a two-part 60 -item teacher information consciousness and student academic performance (TICSAPQ) was constructed and administered in 16 randomly selected secondary schools in Ibadan Municipality using 110 teachers. The cores from the TICSAPQ provided the data for the study. Both the standardized (Z) function and Pearson Product Moment Correlation were used to' test five directional hypotheses related to the problems of the study. The result showed that there is a positive significant relationship between teacher information consciousness and student academic performance. The researcher therefore suggested that the Ibadan Municipality of Oyo State needs to develop a comprehensive personnel information that will supply teachers with information needed to get their jobs done effectively. .
- ItemOpen AccessStaff Personnel Management and Productivity in Ikeja Local Education District of Lagos state(Awemark Industrial Printers, 2003) Bello, S. A.Staff management, whether in business, industry, church or school, lies at the core of the efficiency of the organization. Indeed the entire function called' administration' may be defined as getting things done through the efforts of other people. The extent to which the school. executive is able to manage his staff determines to a large extent the degree of the efficiency and consequently the level of the productivity of the school, Nwankwo (1985). . Recruitment, that is process of enlistment of new members into a group, and through which they become part and parcel of administration of an organization, has some relationship in the productivity of an institution like the school. Selection of personnel. for the school system is one of the most critical decisions that confront the school administrators. If a bad judgement is made, the process of correction can be too long and cumbersome, particularly in the school system, where personnel are so difficult to dismiss as against the situation in private enterprises where provisions are made for summary dismissal. Ukeje (1992) states that the recruitment and retention of competent people in the teaching profession is a perennial problem all over the world the further stressed that education anywhere has to attract high calibre of teaching personnel so as to improve its quality and productivity. , The focus of this study therefore is to etermine the productivity of school administration vis-a-vis the style of recruitment adopted by the government agency charged with the responsibility of employing the teaching personnel. 244 COl/temporary Issues ill Educational Management: Book of Honour; 2003 This study is very significant in the sense that the findings of the study will enable the Ikeja Local Education District of Lagos State set a very strong and productive standard in the recruitment, selection and placement of teachers.

To this end, the descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Four 'reaearch:questions and two hypotheses were postulated for the study. Of the six education districts in the state, Five were randomly selected with [iue secondarij schools and twenty respondents (comprising teachers and students) sampled from each district. This made a total of a. hundred respondents sampled from. each district and Jive hundred from. the five districts. The questionnaire and the interview were used as instnl1nents for data collection. The contents of these instnl.1nents were face validated hy [iue education specialists of the University of Lagos while a reliability of O.75 was recorded using the testretest method. The data collected were analyzed using the simple percentile and chi square statistical tool. Results sh.owed that a great significance exists between standard quality education and teacher performance on the one hand and quality standard teacher education and teacher productivity on the other hand. The selection was based on stratified random sampling drawn from a population offive thousand one hundred andfifty (1,150) students. Data were generated through the researcher-designed and validated questionnaire, and students' scores in English Language in Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination.
